Because Racecar.
My P/S leak has gone from bad, to not leaking, to POISE PADS HEAVY FLOW.
The red, it runneth over the driveways.
Now that it seems to need topping off every few days lest it cry and whine and moan in pain, should I just remove the damn thing like I did on my '95 Neon? Looped the lines and drove it with no P/S for over a year without issue. The Camry is a bit heavier, but I figure at least the leaking and subsequent noises will stop, and all will be well.
Because racecar.

You should fix it. Or replace with a manual Echo box.

The people I seriously don't get are those doing PS conversions to put it *in* a 65-68 Mustang. WHY
I only know it's a thing because I was looking for some unrelated steering parts for the 'Chero, and that (at least, with the engine out) you can practically one-finger steer while standing still. Worse with an engine, granted, but still - are we literally trying to make cars possible for four-year-olds to drive?

I don't want to have to pull the rack. That's why I want to go the cheap and easy route.

it just sucks it doesnt have its own belt. With my E3 BMW the steering wheel was so huge and the boost was so high I reached in with some tin snips and took care of that problem in about 4 seconds

The Camry has literally ZERO steering feel as it is, so maybe without ATF coursing through its leaky veins, it will feel more... feely.

.....it does. Muahahahahaaaaaaa

AE86 I bought had power steering belt removed. I havn't reconnected to check if the pump even still works, but it drives fine. Parking lots are the only places I miss it.

The leak is in the box itself?

If it's leaking from the power steering rack like my car is, good luck looping the lines

Manual steering for everyone!

We need a version of the "feels"/"I know that feel" rage comic character with a steering wheel.

I'm hoping the decrease in pressure will make it leak less/stop leaking.
Anything's better than the river I have now.

How is your power steering designed? On my old chevy, a line pinched itself and killed my power steering. It also made the car nearly impossible to drive because you actively fought the hydraulics.

You'll probably need to fix it if you plan on trading it.

I would LOVE to hear more on this. I have been wanting to loop the lines on my miata since I bought it. What implications does it have for reliability? It's something so often recommended on forums, but I have always been cautious of trusting claims from people on those. Why is it a bad idea? Would it be a mistake? Thanks to anyone with advice!!!

Also you will increase your upper body strength if you disconnect it.
But in all seriousness, not being able to quickly steer is a safety issue.
